My Hands-on Experience with the Suunto Ocean After 2 Months of Teaching Diving in Nha Trang
First Impressions
The Suunto Ocean was a gift from my boss, sent all the way from Saigon to Nha Trang. Honestly, my first reaction wasn’t great — it looked bulky, the metal bezel was shiny but not exactly “sleek” like most modern smartwatches.
But that was before I took it diving. Underwater, the large screen became a real advantage — bright, clear, and easy to read even at depth or under strong sunlight. Once worn, it feels secure and sturdy — exactly what you want from a serious dive computer.
When the Suunto Ocean Shines Underwater

Over the course of two months of teaching scuba diving in Nha Trang, I relied on the Suunto Ocean to track depth, dive time, and no-decompression limits — all of which were incredibly accurate. The Auto Dive Mode activates automatically once you hit the water, saving time and effort — a big plus for instructors.
It also includes “extra” features like a digital compass and real-time clock — not essential for me, but they work smoothly. In freedive mode, it displays data clearly and syncs quickly with the Suunto app on my phone.
The GPS Feature – A Game Changer for Divers and Environmental Researchers

One of the most impressive features for me is the super-smooth GPS — fast, accurate, and capable of recording dive locations and mapping routes underwater. This is especially useful for those working in marine research, conservation, or habitat monitoring.
And the battery? Absolutely “beast mode” — lasting over a week of regular dives before needing a recharge.
